General Fund

Funds donated to the Friends’ general fund help to underwrite Independence Branch services and activities. In addition to support for the library’s general collection, the Friends fund new acquisitions for the Barbara Gittings Gay and Lesbian Collection, the Rebecca T. Stoloff Critics’ Choice Collection, the Chinese Language Collection, the African-American Collection, and the Children’s Collection.

Throughout the year The Friends Present program underwrites many teen, children, family and adult programs at the Independence Branch.

The Friends of the Independence Branch accepts online donations to the general fund processed by PayPal or by the Venmo digital wallet. To use a major credit card or a bank-issued debit card, click on the yellow “Donate” button below to start the process, then follow the onscreen instructions. (To add a note or comment to your donation, click on the words “Write a note” on the PayPal donation form, underneath your donation amount. Or send us an email message at friendsindependencebranch@gmail.com). You do not have to be a member of PayPal to make an online donation, but PayPal members have the option of logging in to their PayPal accounts during the donation process.

To send a donation by using Venmo, search in the app for our username, @indy-branch. If we don’t have your contact information you can supply it in the memo field of the app, or in a message sent to our email address above.

Endowment Fund

The Friends and the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation have worked together to establish an endowment to provide a stable source of future funds for the Independence Branch. The endowment is administered by and under the control of the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation, not the Friends. If you wish to contribute to the endowment, write a check payable to the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation, and note on the face of the check that it is for the Independence Branch Endowment Fund. Send your check to the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation, 1901 Vine Street, Suite 111, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
