About Us

The Friends of the Independence Branch Library is a subordinate organization to the Friends of the Free Library of Philadelphia, Inc.  The purpose of the Friends of the Independence Branch Library is:

• to promote awareness of the Independence Branch Library’s operations, resources, services and needs;
• to foster close relations between the Independence Branch Library and the community;
• to aid in the development of programs for the Independence Branch Library;
• to raise money for additions and improvements to the Independence Branch Library;
• and to advocate on behalf of the Independence Branch Library with governmental agencies and community organizations as an incidental activity in a manner consistent with its status as a charitable organization under the provisions of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
